[Canon A620] On 28 August 1988, at the airfield of Ramstein in Germany, the most tragic aerobatics disaster in the history of flight occurred, with the deaths of 67 spectators and 3 pilots of the Italian aerobatics squadron and hundreds casualties. Wing Commander Ivo Nutarelli (no.10), Wing Commander Fabio Naldini (no.1) and Flight Lieutenant Giorgio Alessio (no.2) collided in flight while performing the heart-shaped "cardioid" figure, and the aircraft of Nutarelli plunged in flames into the onlooking crowd. After this incident, aerobatics squadrons all over the world changed their display procedures, and Germany placed a permanent ban on aerobatics performances of any kind. These are the remains of the three Aermacchi MB.339PAN aircraft of the "Frecce Tricolori", Italian aerobatics team involved in the disaster.
